Portraits et autoportraits de Paul Delvaux
This was the Japanese tour of the exhibition, Portraits et autoportraits de Paul Delvaux, held at the Musée Paul Delvaux in Belgium to mark the 25th anniversary of the Fondation Paul Delvaux. The exhibition looked at the life and work of Paul Delvaux through his self-portraits and portraits of people close to him.
Drawing occupied a very important place in Delvaux’s creative process. He spent most of his time in his studio, and was reputedly never without his croquis book, even in the company of friends. In addition to oil portraits, this exhibition included a large number of drawings that shed light on the artist’s working process, and offered a rare opportunity to appreciate many of them alongside corresponding finished oils.
