Gott, Mensch, Pharao ; Vier Tausend Jahre Ägyptische Kunst und Kultur
The Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna is world-renowned for the quality and size of its collection. Particularly fascinating is its ancient Egyptian art collection, which was built over several phases of large-scale collecting, and has remained central to the museum throughout its history.
Put together under the theme of God, Man and Pharaoh, this exhibition was the fruit of a major, extensive research project led by Dr. Wilifried Seipel, director-general of the Kunsthistorisches Museum and eminent Egyptologist. Over 140 items of rare and precious artworks and artifacts were exhibited, including stone sculptures and reliefs of kings and gods, mummies, coffins, and grave goods, as well as everyday objects used by people living at the time, illuminating from many angles the 4,000-year evolution of ancient Egyptian civilization.
